An exclusive evening under the summer stars and the opportunity to enjoy and purchase some very fine art, while supporting charitable causes, is what the event being organised by the Friends of St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation and the Lions Club La Valletta is all about.
The location in itself is a very promising start – the art exhibition and auction will be held in St. Anne’s Chapel, on Fort St. Angelo, while the reception will be held in the chapel surroundings, within the fortified walls of this historic location.

Various artists have generously contributed to this philanthropic initiative by offering their artwork at well below market price, making this also the perfect opportunity for a good investment. Participating, are a number of established and emerging artists, including Salvatore Montanucci, Fabio Borg, Matthew Kassar, William Azzopardi, Mario Arcidiacono, John Busuttil Leaver, Jason Lu, C.S. Lawrence, Winston Hassall, Rupert Cefai, Mark Sagona, Maria Rossella Dalmas, Therese Storace and Marthese Vella.
The artwork on auction is inspired by the history of the Knights of Malta, and important places and events which characterised the period during which the Maltese Islands were governed by the Order. The works of art may be viewed online in the gallery created for this event.
A public viewing will be held on Saturday 2nd July throughout the day, with the main event being held on Saturday 9th July, at 8:00pm. The auction will remain open until the 14th July, and bidding may also take place online at http://auctions.artissa.com.
This fund-raising event is a joint effort by Lions Club Valletta and the Foundation with officials from the club: Friends of St. Luke's Hospital Foundation. Both these organisations have been instrumental in donating equipment in aid of reducing and preventing blindness and in assisting eyesight projects in third world countries. The Foundation has also donated funds for the purchase of equipment for the Renal Unit as well as the refurbishment of the hospital Chapel. Mr. Kenneth Gauci Borda of VeeGeeBee studios and Mr. Sergio Muscat of Artissa are coordinating the artistic efforts of the contributors.
